Info For Patients
What is a HISP?
A health information service provider, or HISP, is an organization that supports the secure transport of structured or unstructured data (e.g., simple text and PDF, semi-structured text, and highly structured messages and documents) on behalf of the sending or receiving organization or individual.
Do I need an electronic health record (EHR) system to participate?
No. Providers are able to participate in the Healthconnect network with or without an EHR.
However, having an EHR will allow providers to fully benefit from health information exchange services. For providers looking to adopt an EHR, Healthconnect has developed a Preferred Partnership Program to highlight EMR vendors who best support the mission and goals of HIE.
